Reeperbahn lockdown

Saturday night, 28.11.2020

You say Reeperbahn you read party.

Not when COVID19 is around.

The following reportage shows empty streets, closed doors and lights off on Saturday night during the second edition of lockdown, around 11pm. Whoever visited Hamburg at least once knows how the Große Freiheit looks like on weekends, how long is the queue at Lucullus to grab what is known one of the the best bratwurst in Hamburg.

The entrance of the legendary Dollhouse is usually crowded of party people as much as the Keiserkeller's and Beatles-Platz is full of cabs all night long until early morning.

Not when COVID19 is around.

Herbertstrasse, the famous street for "only men +18" is desert. Windows are closed, lights are off and silence is shocking.

Restaurants are closed, some still provide food to go.

Homeless face hard time to find bottle and beer cans to give back in exchange of few coins.

Where you usually need to run among drunk people and loud groups to get the S-Bahn, now it's playground for few happy pigeons.
